You may have heard the word “gospel” before and wondered what it means. Perhaps it conjures images of a lively choir. In the bible, the writer Mark introduces his book as “the beginning of the gospel about Jesus Christ.” The word “gospel” simply means “good news”.
So what is this “good news”? Well, the whole bible is good news and it tells us about three things:
1) About us
“God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life.”
Jesus, quoted by the Apostle John
John 3:16
“All have sinned and fall short of God’s standards”
The Apostle Paul
Romans 3:23
2) About the Lord Jesus
“God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power. Then Jesus went around doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the Devil, for God was with him.
We apostles are witnesses of all He did throughout Israel and in Jerusalem. They put Him to death by crucifying Him, but God raised Him to life three days later.
He ordered us to preach everywhere and to testify that Jesus is ordained of God to be the judge of all. He is the one all the prophets testified about, saying that everyone who believes in Him will have their sins forgiven through His name”
The Apostle Peter
Acts 10:38-43
“He personally carried away our sins in His own body on the cross so we can be dead to sin and live for what is right. You have been healed by His wounds!”
The Apostle Peter
1 Peter 2:24
3) About new life
“I assure you, those who listen to my message and believe in God who sent me have eternal life, they will never be condemned for their sins.”
Jesus, quoted by the Apostle John
John 5:24
“Look! Here I am, I stand at the door and knock, if you hear me calling and open the door, I will come in and we will share a meal as friends”
Jesus, quoted by the Apostle John
Revelation 3:20
